James is an internationally recognised senior leader with over 30 years’ experience in the international development, corporate responsibility, and sustainability sectors. His passion is to make a leadership contribution towards sustainable development and the eradication of poverty.
In 2016, James was appointed BHP Foundation’s inaugural Chief Executive, where he continues to lead the strategic direction of a transformative portfolio of projects working with 40 organisations across 49 countries. His previous experience includes Director of Public Policy & International Programs at Oxfam, and with the Central Land Council in the Northern Territory, Australia, which represented the interests of the Indigenous landowners of Central Australia. James is currently a member of a range of corporate and multi-stakeholder forums including as a Board member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative
